Lightning Dance Team Spring Tryout FAQ's:
What team am I trying out for?
Tryouts are for both the Fall Performance and Winter Competition season. Members from both the Fall and Winter coaching staff will be present at auditions. Dancer may tryout to do one or both seasons and you will indicate this on your formal audition form.
*While it is not the norm that dancers only do one season we have had student athletes, for example, who play soccer or run cross country in the fall so only do winter competitive season, or play hockey in the winter so only do our fall performance season.
What happens each day at tryouts? What should I have prepared?
On Tuesday and Wednesday dancers will learn all material required for Thursday's formal audition. Those auditioning will learn a short Jazz and a short High Kick combination as well as a skills combination that they will perform during final auditions. Formal/final audition will be done in groups of 4-6 dancers.
How many people make it?
This is different each year! We have had anywhere from a total of 45-75 dancers on our team. Most years, however, our roster has been between 50-55 dancers. At auditions in the spring, dancers are simply selected for the team as a whole. Placement on Varsity, JV, and B-Squad are done at the beginning of each season.
What is the time commitment to be on LDT?
All summer training is optional but definitely encouraged.
Our fall season runs from mid-August to mid-October and practices 4 days per week after school with ballet on Fridays.
The winter season runs from the end of October to mid-February and practices 5 days a week after school.
Please see the schedules page for a full listing of events and competitions.
